is an interdisciplinary artist working with voice, text, music, and theatre.
She began working with voice in 2018, exploring the sound of medieval music within Moscow’s experimental scene, where this repertoire was unusual in the local cultural context. Her first solo concert took place with the medieval music ensemble at Moscow’s Kozlov Jazz Club, with a programme of Cantigas de Santa Maria (13th century). Her involvement in Moscow’s experimental arts community soon led her to perform works by contemporary composers and to develop her first performative projects. Between 2019 and 2024, she gave dozens of world and Russian premieres of works by contemporary composers and took part in the recording of her first CD, featuring The Blue Notebook by Soviet avant-garde composer Edison Denisov.
Since 2024, Alena Verin has increasingly focused on her own work as a performer, librettist, and composer. Her projects explore such themes as the utopian promises of artificial intelligence (The World of Wondrous Rooms, 2024 — libretto and performance), the role of small cultures in the context of globalization (Kuban Songs, 2026 — libretto, music, and performance), as well as working with archival materials and bringing them back onto the contemporary stage (Edison Denisov: The Blue Notebook, 2025).
Since 2023, she has been based in Basel, where she completed a Master’s degree in Contemporary Music Performance (2023–2025) at the Hochschule für Musik Basel. She is currently continuing her studies in the experimental programme Music and Scene in Transformation (2025–present).
